Article Directories
Are article directories still a good way to build links up? If not, what is recommended to an eCommerce site, looking to build links? Thanks a bunch. (my website is on my profile if you want to give specifics).

Yes article submission is always being a good way to promote your site and get backlinks from it. It also boosts your site traffic which is very important.

Yes. Good quality article content is still holds the key in getting higher ranking. Do not use same content to many article directories and spun the articles and re-using it are won't help.

Directory submission is a form of display website, where instead of bidding process on google where you only publish your site to web internet directories online. Search Engine use internet directories to go by the internet as with any link on the interent.

Though Google has devalued them, they still provide valid links to your site as well as being a great way to cover a topic and get it published.

Yes, but there are new rules on how to properly make this type of link building.
