You have to use all the leading social networking sites like Facebook,Twitter, LinkedIn , Google+etc....Now days people spend most of their times on these sites, so you should be active on such sites.........

Besides of promoting your site on social networking site, you also may chose the option to do blog comment, Article submission, blog submission and directory submission etc.

You have to look for websites related to your niche and must have good pr too. Make sure to leave quality or good comments at the same time.

I agree with you we must be active on social sites because Now a day social media platform very strong to get proper traffic for the web sites.We also build up the profile with user experience, also build up the relationship on social media site. It very helpful to gain traffic for the website.
