Please follow the following steps and process for link building:

# Make sure that the links are from authoritative domain names
# Links from a volume of domains not from s single domain
# Build deep links
# Get local links for local ranking
# Build links with anchor text
# Slow Link building
# .edu domains are just myth, they are just like normal domains
# List website in the following directories: DMOZ, Best of Web, Yahoo !

Link building has become very difficult after Google Penguin update. Now the low quality backlinks are considered as spam so build back links only in high quality websites.
