Baby massage is not difficult, and this special time will establish a real communication between you and him. Here are some tips to make a successful massage. So do not hesitate!

Baby massage at birth is possible, however, parents usually start at 1 month, and continue until the age of 3 years. The average duration of massage is 30 minutes, but can vary depending on the age of the child, and his habit to get a massage.

The environment necessary for a good baby massage

Baby massage should be performed in a warm room (26 ° C) and quiet. Directed before nap or bedtime, it can release the excitement and improve your sleep. Out of the bath is also a good time; the only time is avoided after the bottle or meal.

The adopted position should be comfortable for the baby and the parent. For this you have several options for baby massage:

Sit on the floor or on a bed, with flexible back and right. Place the baby facing you, on a pillow or blanket as close as possible to you, it will reassure.

You can also sit elongated legs, kept back, and place your baby in the crook between your legs on a blanket or pillow.

The baby may be lying on the changing table

Remove your jewelry, wash your hands, and above all, relax: it is essential for that massage is beneficial. Coat your hands with oil or milk and rub a few moments to warm them.

How to do your baby massage

baby massage is different caresses: the contact should be warm, soft, but firm, made stimulating and reassuring pressure to the baby. A hand must always keep in touch with him. At first, pay attention to his skull, which remains fragile for several months. Start with the extremities of the body: first the trunk massage might make nervous. If it's not used, start slowly, massaging the legs do eg.

Here is an overview of some simple gestures for baby massage:

The legs: massage each leg with the inside of the hand, between the thumb and index finger, thumb down, making a succession of hands from the groin to the ankle. This removes the tension of the legs, and promotes blood flow to the feet. Then lift one leg toward you, being careful not to raise the baby pool, and surround it with both hands, as if to form a bracelet. Make a slight movement of "screwing and unscrewing," to relax any muscle thickness. You can also roll the leg in your hands, thigh to the ankle.

The feet: foot massage is beneficial for the body because it is extremely rich in nerve endings. Drag an inch after another on the sole of the foot, from the heel to the toes, then massage each toe. Gently massage the heel and then the entire sole of the foot with both thumbs. Remember the top of the foot and ankle. After massaging the legs and feet, massage the buttocks with small circular movements.

The belly: place a moment your hands on the baby's stomach, then massage in bringing to you a hand after another. Then slide your hands flat on each side of the belly. With the flat of the fingers, rub in the direction of clockwise in a circle. The belly massage tones the digestive system, helps regulate transit and relieve gas and constipation.

The arm holding the wrist with one hand and with the other, massage the shoulder arm wrist with the flat of the palm, inside hand facing you. Stabilize the shoulder in order not to raise the baby. As for the legs, then make a slight movement of "screwing and unscrewing", both hands still close together to avoid bending the elbow.

Hands: As for the feet, massage the fingers and the back of the hand, wrist and finally by making small circles.

The face: with the flat of the fingers, smooth forehead, the middle towards the temples. Massage then eyebrows, always going towards the temples. With your thumbs, turn up each side of the nose, then down diagonally to the cheeks. This gesture helps unclutter the nose, and relaxes the muscles of the cheeks. Then, with the tip of the thumbs, gently stretch the upper lip and lower lip, like a smile. Finally Relax the jaw, drawing small circles with your fingertips.

Back: back massage is often the most relaxing time of baby massage. Install it flat on your thighs or on the changing table, then place your hands across the upper back. Come and go perpendicularly to the axis of the back, one hand after the other towards the buttocks then up to the shoulders. One hand on the baby's bottom, then slide the other hand shoulder to the buttocks. Finally, describe small circles with your fingertips across the surface of the back, and then, with fingers slightly apart, "paint" back shoulder to the buttocks.

You can complete the massage with small gentle exercises to stretch the muscles of the baby. However, be sure to choose exercises adapted to their age and traction.

Remember that during the baby massage , you can talk to your child, or even sing. This surely reassure. If you want to deepen these massage techniques, also remember that there are some cities that do baby massage in workshops. Do not hesitate to ask for their service.
