Bounce rate is single-page sessions divided by all sessions, or the percentage of all sessions on your site in which users viewed only a single page and triggered only a single request to the Analytics server.

Bounce rate is the fraction of people who landed on a page and immediately left. Bounces are always one page sessions.

Bounce rate is a visit where a website visitor decides to leave your website without triggering any other request to the server. When a website visitor visited your website by landing on any page and leave your website without clicking on any page, Analytics count that as bounced visitor. Google Analytics count bounce rate by dividing total bounced sessions by total sessions.

Bounce rate is one of the most misunderstood metrics in Google Analytics. Bounce rate is the percentage of single page visits (or web sessions). It is the number of visits in which a person leaves your website from the landing page without browsing any further.
