A group is used to interact with other people not only at facebook but at any platform. A well established group with a lot of members can also get traffic to your sites.

I believe groups are dead.. Nobody uses fb groups now. Earlier it was Causes then Facebook changed it to Groups and I believe they will soon be dead.
