Crosslinking is the process of chemically joining two or more molecules by a covalent bond. Crosslinking reagents (or crosslinkers) are molecules that contain two or more reactive ends capable of chemically attaching to specific functional groups (primary amines, sulfhydryls, etc.) on proteins or other molecules.

Cross linking refers to the process of linking between two sites. Whether or not they are owned by the same person, cross linking is the process on which the internet is built. It allows users to reference sites with content similar to that which they are already viewing, and may be of further interest to them.

Cross linking is also interlinking among web pages within the same website hosting. Excessive cross linking may be penalized by the search engines in the form of website hosting drop down in search results and your website hosting may even disappear from search engine results.

Cross-linking is used to refer to the process of linking one site to another and provides a way to allow access to it. - It doesn't need to be owned by the same person because it provides a way to build on the Internet.
