For me, Deitel's books are the best. Step-by-step learning, lot of exercises and examples.

First of all, you should have to clear your oops concepts from books,
after that being in practice with programs and implement them, run them, you will be good in java. java is note a hard language, but practice make a men perfect. so from now you should have to join any good coaching class in your area. also take help from online tutorial web sites which helps in java study.

To learn and understand JAVA language you have to first clear your OOP concepts so it will make your way easy to understand.
To start learning JAVA I mostly preferred "Java Programing" Book of "Balaguru Swami". Its very much helpful and easy guide to get command on JAVA. Best of luck.
