If you abuse it and use it in an unnatural way then it will hurt your site.

If you use it naturally, it would not be a problem.

Anchor text helps to determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. Links without anchor texts are called
naked URLs, or URL anchor texts. Different browsers will display anchor texts differently and proper use of anchor text can help the page linked to rank for
those keywords in search engines.

Anchor text Links are helpful for Good ranking to higher your website on search engines. But linking to exact keyword as anchor text is Not good for optimization.

These recent updates by Panda and Penguin, anchor texts should be used with cautions. Using a lot of exact match keywords as anchor texts could lead your site to get penalized by Google.

Exact match anchor text links are targetd by Google. So, instead of using exact match anchor text, use similar...

Through this your website will be recognized through your keywords. Have multiple keywords for your website and don't do over SEO on single anchor text as it will leads to penalization of your website.
