5 Tips to stopping intruders breaking into your property

5 Tips to stopping intruders breaking into your property

Making sure you have secure locks on your windows and doors is very important, but deterrents will help with stopping intruders attempting a break in. deter intruders
In the last blog post we looked at how intruders exploited the weakness in the euro cylinder lock which is commonly used in UPVC doors. This time we look at deterring intruders from attempting to break in to your property. We have 5 great tips on making your property look less appealing to the opportunist.

Tip No1 Make sure your entry points are visible

Don’t make it easy for the intruder to hide in the shadows away from view. Keeping trees and shrubs trimmed so the key entry points can be seen by you or your neighbours. Intruders want to hide so don’t make it easy for them.

Tip No2 Lighting is important

Motion activated lighting is not expensive and can be easily installed. Intruders do not want to be visible and this is one of the best ways to deter them.

Tip No3 Have a dog?

Intruders hate dogs and if they know there is one on a property the likely-hood is they will not go anywhere near it. If you don’t have a dog, you can still make it look like you have one, with a motion activated bark or a simple beware of the dog sign.

Tip No4 Windows and door signs

Put signs on windows or doors to show you have taken steps to secure your property. For example a sticker in a window stating your property is registered with immobilise. This tells the intruder that it is going to make it much harder to sell your stolen goods, but also increase the risk of being caught.

Tip No5 Burglar bell box

Burglar alarm bell box. Having a box on the front of the house which looks active (even if you haven’t got an alarm) will be another barrier to an intruder breaking in. It’s important it looks maintained, so it isn’t covered in moss and faded from the sun. Having an LED light flashing will will give the appearance of the alarm being active.
