Yes it will help to generate traffic to your site and if forum content and your site content is related to each other it will help alot.

I agree, forums are great way to create quality backlinks that is VERY important after Google penguin update. Just make sure that you post quality content and that you use forums regularly.

first and foremost thing in forum is to how to engage others based on the relevant and informative thread discussions....if we go for sharing or presenting our opinions in form of answer with respect to the relevant topic such that it should be very attractive and satisfies the opponent desire....then it would be very sounding and effective
