MT insurance has three key pieces

As you go about shopping for the right massage therapy liability insurance policy for your practice, it is important to know what you are looking for and why you may need that particular kind of coverage. Without proper knowledge of the key components of a high quality massage therapy liability insurance policy, you could end up paying more money for less coverage.

There are three core areas of coverage you need to be looking for in a massage therapy liability insurance policy. The first one is called general liability insurance, which is also known as trip and fall insurance—a nickname that conveys the purpose of this form of protection quite clearly. The second core area of coverage that should come with your massage therapy liability insurance policy is known as professional liability insurance, which is also called malpractice liability insurance. The third core piece of massage therapy liability insurance is called product liability. This part of your massage therapists insurance policy will be there to provide protection in case a client claims damage or injury due to a product you used in the session, such as hot rocks, massage lubricant or essential oils.

For a large number of massage therapists and bodyworkers, securing a solid massage therapy liability insurance policy is not only a smart business decision, but it is also a necessity in order to practice in certain states and regions, to belong to particular professional organizations, or to be hired by savvy employers. However, the type of massage therapy liability insurance you choose can make a world of difference in the quality of coverage you receive in exchange for the fee you pay.

As you assess your existing practice or get ready to open your doors, be sure to place massage therapists insurance on your checklist. Then, be sure to find a policy that offers you all the peace of mind you need, so you can keep your focus on serving clients to the best of your ability—not worrying about all the “what ifs” that come with running a client centered business.

For example, when you have a solid massage therapists insurance policy, you will not need to worry about what would happen if a client happened to have an accident on the property of your practice, such as tripping on the way into the session room and hitting his head on the edge of a table or chair.

Similar to a severe auto accident, such an occurrence is rare, but possible, and you will want to be protected, for the legal financial fall-out of something like that taking place could be disastrous. For instances such as these, your massage therapists insurance policy should come equipped with general liability insurance, which is also know as “slip and fall” insurance.

Besides this general safety net, a high quality massage therapists insurance policy will offer you coverage from other potential legal claims, such as a client who claims damage or injury due to a lack of skill or competence on your part as the professional massage therapist or bodyworker. In this case, the part of your massage insurance policy that would kick in to provide coverage is called professional liability insurance, or malpractice liability insurance.
