But SMO is social media optimization, it use various social networking sites for promotion of website.

Be clear that SMO - Social media optimization is a part of SEO which deals with only social media platforms or sites. And has nothing major difference between them.

I think SEO is more important because the traffic which a search engine can give you, social media cannot give that. But the SMO is much better if you have strong fan base and good likes..
