If you are serious about living in the US I can help you but I'd need to ask what you are looking for, and what do you describe as "best?"

I can tell you that I live in a part of the country that is rural, yet only a few hours away from a metro center. It is beautiful, scenic, with wildlife, water and woods. The cost of living is very low. You could probably buy a comfortable retirement home for under a hundred grand and a beautiful place on the water for a couple hundred grand. Something that would cost millions in California.

But it is rural. If you want to go to the symphony every week, you will be unhappy here.

Well I like San Francisco the most, it has the perfect balance for everything - employment, entertainment, recreation and night life.
