Negative SEO attacks can come in a few forms. Generally, negative SEO refers to when one website buys links and points them at a competitor’s website in an effort to torpedo their rankings. Other instances of negative SEO have included such tactics as hacking a website to inflict some sort of malicious damage on a website, review bombing simply by reporting another website’s “black hat” tactics to Google.

Hi,
Negative SEO – have you heard this term before? To be perfectly frank, it’s new to me as of this week. “Google bombing” has been around for years, a kind of hack using links and anchor text to manipulate the search results as a prank – the famous example being a biography of George W. Bush returned as the first result for the query “miserable failure.”
Thanks

Negative SEO definitely exists but I believe it is less of a "threat" than many webmasters or SEOs might believe. Often, when sites get hit by link penalties or rankings start to slip site owners or managers are quick to blame negative SEO when in fact the issues are often self-inflicted.
