SEO is the way by which you increase your website visibility on the search engine results page. Thus, the search engines rank it higher on its results page. On the other hand, SMO is all about networking and getting the shared content on the web using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg and YouTube. I think there's an endless debate about which of these two is important. After all, SEO is important to the people on your site where you want to attract to land on. Similarly, if you have a good profile of social media, there is more chance of ranking high in search engines.

I would say SEO should take priority as it is more important than any SMO buzz. However Social Media Optimisation is something that all site owners should address as the big sites like Twitter and Facebook are here to stay.

Both are different platforms... SEO is for search engines and SMO is for social network.... so both traffics are good...try to do both at a same time...

I would prefer SEO because it really benefit my website for a longer period of time..

According to my opinion, SEO is best.

Both are effective. But nowadays SMO is also getting more importance because it leads to your community to exchange services within the community. It is a good strategy to build your own community to get benefits from without going somewhere else you may not know the credibility of the firm.

Now a days, SMO is a part of SEO. Without SMO you can get and achieve higer ranking. We must include the SMO part in the online marketing campaign.

Be clear that SMO - Social media optimization is a part of SEO which deals with only social media platforms or sites. And has nothing major difference between them.

I think SEO is more important because the traffic which a search engine can give you, social media cannot give that. But the SMO is much better if you have strong fan base and good likes..
