As of me Keyword density is important because search engines use this information to categorize a site's theme and to determine which terms the site is relevant to. The perfect keyword density will help achieve higher search engine positions. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly.My advice that try to include your keywords without worrying about the 3 to 4% keyword density.

The keyword density features ad figures of the websites were once very important but nowadays the numbers like 2% or 12% might not be that important since the on page elements are believed to be not that important any longer.

If you want to get maximum from your efforts than you also have to take care for Keyword Proximity and keyword prominence.

keywords density should 1-3% is best for SEO point of view.
if you are using more keywords density in the content like 10% or above then it is keywords stuffing and this is not good for better

As per my knowledge the preferred keyword density rate varies from search engine to search engine. In general, it is recommended using a keyword density rate in the range of 1-3%. Too much keyword density can cause your site to be tagged as spam.
