Keyword density is the ratio of keywords to the total word count of a given page.
While talking about SEO, Placement of keywords is more important than frequency.
Focusing on creating longer, more valuable content will naturally lead to higher rankings.
A page with dozens of same keywords and Keyword stuffing can receive no search visibility.

This is the way to calculate Keyword Density
 
If you use the keywords 3 times in 100 words content then your keyword density is 3% this is how it is calculated. The recommended keyword density should not be more than 4%.

So if in an article of 100 words you are using your keyword 10 times, your density will be 10%. Many people use different formulas to calculate keyword density (like this one).

But in essence:
