Different between HTML Sitemap and XML Sitemap ?

I submit the sitemap but after testing from the webmaster it shows that the sitemap is HTML even though I submitted the XML sitemap. So, can you describe the difference between them ?

HTML site map is mainly for the for ease of navigation , they are easy to undesrtand..they are mainly for the human and not for the search engine..the problem with the HTML site map they are not able to updated by itself..

XML sitemap are for the search engine ..they are not understandable for a normal internet user..but they are automatic up datable ..you can set frequency over there...

XML Sitemap is designed for the search engines, is an easy way for webmasters to inform search engine about web pages (links) in the website that are available for crawling. sitemap can list all URLs from your site and give the search engines priority information.

HTML sitemap is designed for website visitors so that they can clearly see it all the webpages in the websites. This is for users friendly.

The XML Sitemap which is a techie version and does not need to be seen by you or me, but is meant for the search engine to read about the pages in a site, their relative importance to each other, and how often they are updated. You can also submit this version of the sitemap to Google Webmaster tools for quick indexing and slotting into Google memory.

The HTML Sitemap is more like the ones you see in shopping malls, telling you where the Zara store is, so you can hop over there directly and not have to walk two miles hunting for it. This type of sitemap is meant for us mere mortals, unlike the XML, which only the Google gods can view!

Different between HTML Sitemap and XML Sitemap ?

The difference is that XML sitemaps are written for search engines and HTML sitemaps are written for humans. An XML sitemap is specifically written for search engine spiders. A search engine spider can quickly and easily extract all the important pieces of information about your site by looking at the XML file.
