Getting Links Done

I have been having trouble deciding on something about my web based site and the links that can be found on it. I am pretty sure that links can be an essential thing in the existence of m site. I have come to this very good forum to inquire about it. There are two types of links that I can see at current times. These are the self-made and the links that I have received through swapping. Which one do you think will be better for me to use when I have this site to market and promote online? I need your advice on these matters.

What do you mean by links through swapping ?

Do you mean organic/natural links or paid links ?

Link Swapping or Link Exchange is a thing of the past. The only time it could be considered is if the site is related to yours and has a nice PR and keep the link exchange to a minimum.

You can get links from an article directory if you are willing to pay for them.

Links I'm building myself are working quite well for me, hope this helped.
