I am looking for best ways to get traffic to a travel website.

To promote it use social media sites, travel forums, and other press release sites.
Build quality links for your site and link it to high DA sites.

I agree with the previous post. Try also to place some Direct Ad banners. This way also you can get targeted traffic. There are many ways to do this - please do some research in that area.
