why are bar stools and tables so tall?
 

i understand the ones by the bar so people can reach, but the ones away are also tall.

Apparently originally people used to stand up and drink at bar saloons. Bar saloons are usually as high as a person's waist or chest and so in order to get people to sit down and reach the bar saloon, they had to make bar stools tall enough for people to reach their drinks. This is why bar stools are tall - so that people can sit at the saloon and have their drink. :)
