may be no follow links give you link back to your site which is good but not index or improve your site's SEO.
Do Follow gives you link back and help site to improve SEO.

Hi,

Do follow and no follow links are very important to tell the search engine bots I mean crawlers to tell them whether they follow this link or not if you give them do follow means that you are voting for that website as a good quality website and there is no harm in that website.

If you are giving no follow means there is no value to search engines to follow that links because they are affiliate links or other links which are not important

Both types of links are useful to get traffic towards the website. Do follow links are crawl by search engines and this links are helpful in increasing the keywords ranking in the search engines, whereas 'No follow' links are never crawled by the search engine spider and don't help in increasing the keywords ranking in the search engine.

Difference between no follow and do follow:

No follow:
Don't pass the juice
Consider the link as non-trusted
You don't get a benefit of the website's high PR.

Do follow:
Passes the juice
Consider the link as trusted
Benefit of website's high PR
Help is link building.

No -Follow Link : Don't pass the link juice where as Do- Follow link :pass the link juice

Links that point to another website are called do follow links. These pass link juice to a page, help to increase its PageRank and raise its ranking on search engines. The more natural do follow links a website has the higher it is likely to rank online.

A no follow link is a link that doesn’t point to another site. I think this is where people get confused, as people can still click onto a no follow link and get sent to another site, but in the eyes of the search engines they don’t point to anything.
