Web directories are loosing their value in SEO day by day however it will good to start if you can submit to few quality directories only like domz. I would like to suggest you yo focus more on guest posting on blogs in your niche.

Yes, Directory submission work best for SEO. But one need to look for High PR approval sites only, not the reciprocal or paid listing as Google hate paid listing.
