Here are some tips that will help to decrease the load time of your website :-

1) Optimize Your Images
2) Utilize Browser Caching
3) Use Static Text Wherever You Can
4) Minify HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
5) Reduce 301 Redirects
6) Use a good coded & Clean designed theme
7) Minimize HTTP Requests

Very simple, you should not have too many plugin in your website. Too many plugin is the reason why your page is loading slowly. My recommendation is to use 5 max.

Also don't get a cheap hosting provider. It really helps to reduce first time to byte time.
