Directory submission is helpful when quality content is posted and appropriate category has been chosen for the same which can help to get relevant results in search engine results.

Directory submission gives you good backlink and traffic if we submit in a proper category or subcategory.

I do believe it is but not as important as it used to be. Google is smart and can detect if you are linking from a directory which is built for SEO purposes. Submit to reputable directories. Use a tool like Ahrefs to spot them.
