What is domain scraping?

There are two different types of domain scraping:

1. One is crawling the web with a bot and copying all content you find, or perhaps specific content that you are looking for. In some cases, folks will look for content on a particular subject and copy (scrape) it on their own blog to get more traffic (usually the more often you post stuff, the higher Google ranks you, although there are a ton of other metrics, and duplicate content can get you in trouble fast).

2. I think the more common usage is scraping for expired domains. In other words, checking domain expirations, and snatching up the domains when they are not renewed, in the hopes of extorting someone for an inflated renewal cost. Or perhaps you just want a really cool domain name, so you keep tabs on them and snatch up a good one when it expires.

Hi

Some programmers who create scraper sites may purchase a recently expired domain name to reuse its SEO power in Google. ... Services at some expired domain name registration agents provide both the facility to find these expired domains and to gather the html that the domain name used to have on its web site.

It doesn't matter who creates the site, what matters are how it links to other sites and who links to it. In local search, if you have a large enough clique with similar content and keywords, then you run the risk of contention in search precision, even if you are not intentionally penalized. It's not specific to google; most general-purpose information retrieval systems have this problem.

Domain scrapping means copying content from other websites.
Scraper sites come in various forms, and range from spammy content sites, to price aggregation and shopping sites, and also web search engines such as Yahoo and online maps such as Google Maps.

Now in this particular strategy, we're going to look for old websites that have links or resource pages. To do this first we're going to scrape URLs have the word “links” in them. A lot of sites (especially older ones) used to have these types of pages and they're very useful for finding aged expired domains.

What is domain scraping?

A scraper site is a website that copies content from other websites using web scraping. The content is then mirrored with the goal of creating revenue, usually through advertising and sometimes by selling user data. Scraper sites come in various forms.
