Not only is the Google search redirect virus extremely challenging to get rid of, and makes using your computer completely frustrating, but it also poses a huge security risk to your machine. Many people have been reporting that they have gotten calls from their banks, because someone was tampering with their PayPal account. The odd thing is that a lot of them reported having the Google redirect virus several months prior to this. It's not to say that having the redirect virus will guarantee that you run into this issue, but there is always a slight chance of it. Is Google the right choice for doing SEO?
