Sorry for saying "NO". Yes..blog commenting is not appropriate technique *now*. It helped a lot in the past but now, its not. I checked with my website(s). But that doesn't help me. Please check your backlinks pointing from any blog after commenting on it? Instead write your own blog, google loves links from the unique content.

Blog commenting is odd now as not benefits much for ranking as treated as link buy when you place link on other blog with keyword as name .If you going to comment with niche related blog then not suppose to use keyword .
