Hong Kong stocks dragged by banks, property shares
Hong Kong shares fell early Wednesday after a retreat on Wall Street and on economic worries related to Europe as well as China, with banks and property developers among those hurt. The Hang Seng Index HK:HSI -0.39% lost 0.8% to 19,244.83 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index declined 1.3% to 9,268.82. Shares of Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd. HK:1398 -2.64% IDCBY -1.58% shed 1.7% and China Construction Bank Corp. HK:939 -3.15% CICHY -1.75% skidded 2.4%, while China Overseas Land & Investment Ltd. HK:688 -1.08% CAOVY -1.38% dropping 2.2%. Shares of China Southern Airlines Co. ZNH -0.18% HK:1055 -0.29% fell 1.7% after issuing a profit warning. China's Shanghai Composite Index CN:000001 -0.23% slipped 0.1% to 2,161.90.
