How long tail keywords help?

Guys, I can very well distinguish long tail and short tail keywords but really wanted to know how long tail keywords can get more traffic to the website than short tail one. Is there any specific idea to get higher ranking for long tail keywords?

Its easier to rank in long tail keywords compared to short tail ones since less is bidding for these keywords. With this, you would be able to rank your site in the first page easier and though there is less search volume, your site would still gain traffic from this.

There is maximum limit of Anchor text 55 how you can look at formula 8 words x 6 characters = 48 characters + 7 spaces = a nice round and easy to remember number 55 Characters.
from this we can see the length taken by you url =x and the total length is =55 the keyword length =y so you can find easily how much your keyword length can be using this
URL(x)+Keyword length (y)=55
y=55-x this will be preferable formula for you

long tail keyword successfully means that a publisher needs to know which long tail keywords actually get hits or are searched for on the major search engines. Research is the only way to know if long tail keywords will work or not, and that if the smaller investment will still pay off at the end of the publishing campaign.

Long tail keywords are narrow, they are less competitive and its easy to optimize. It is easy to rank long tail keyword rather than short tail keyword.

long tail keywords are less competitive and they get position soon if once your long tail key words on top your short keywords also get good position.

Long Tail keywords are the best keywords. Penguin is catching exact match keywords. So, its better to use Penguin.
