first is a good quality content with most number of your website main keywords but without being Spammy...
then good backlinks building.. choose the best relevant websites with high PR
and at least but not last avoide the blackhat seo practice...

You should create quality comments and work on websites with good pr related to your niche.

Choose low competitive keywords and start doing link building in oldest and high PR sites. Update the unique content everyday.

I think first of all you have concentrate on your content and chose those keywords who have low competition and do some social book marking and forum posting.
