Organic rankings are a way of getting traffic by achieving higher ranks in the SERPs (By SEO). While the Adwords is a paid option for showing up higher (Generally at the top/bottom of the Search page).

Running ads is a quick way of getting targeted traffic and requires fair amount of budget. While organic rankings take time to build-up.
