I agree with jameslarry, but we need to get quality backlinks from google authority sites, surely this will helps to get better ranking in search engines. Quality backlinks will helps you for a longer time. Don't use any automated software for doing link building. Do more analysis on your competitor, this will help you to better understand about your competitor techniques and you can find a different strategy to rank well in search engines.
