I agree. But the context in which long tail is used is also important.
Setting up a campaign in AdWords consisting with long-tail keywords will generate relatively few visitors (of course this depends on the size of your target group and how active they are in internet searches).
In my line of business potential customers simply do not very often use three or more words in Google searches. It's usually confined to two words.
Research into the search behavior of your target group is important.
The result is often a mix of short-tail and long-tail.
