I see everyone has provided you with a description, so let me show you what to do with your sitemap! First put the a link to your sitemap in the footer of your website. Then submit your sitemap to Google Webmaster tools or Bing. Once you have submitted your sitemap, be sure to update it regularly when you add content. If you are using wordpress there are some great plugins that will do this automatically.
