Social media let people connect eachother to share interests, hobbie, believes, etc.
If a person has connected to you it does means he's interested in what you're displaying and in what you're proposing...so, if you're selling something, maybe he could be interested in buying it or simply in sharing it, commenting it, etc. and he give to your product/service a push in terms of condivision.
