Google WMT is a place where Google might communicate a problem with your website.
You can use it to see if there are crawl errors, if you have a parameter problem, see how many pages you have in the index, lots more.
For me, it is an occasionally used diagnostic tool, but I have taken action on things that I find there. I have used .htaccess to get rid of excessive parameters. I have found indexed pages that I should delete and redirect.
