Referral traffic refers to visitors who come to your website from sources other than the major search engines. When a visitor clicks on a link on a website or social network and is redirected to another website, tracking software such as Google Analytics registers that visitor as referral traffic. The website it comes from is called a "referrer" because it directs traffic from one website to another.
