When equipment is leased, the law states that the county assessor may assess leased property to either the lessee or the lessor, or both, whether or not there is a private agreement between the parties to the lease. However, property is not normally assessed jointly, and county requirements for the filing of a Business Property Statement vary with respect to leased equipment.
