In simple words, pinging is the processes of letting the search engines know that there was a recent update on your website. The main goal is to increase the probability of your website getting indexed by Google, Yahoo, Bing and the likes.

A Ping tool sends a message to search portals from your website and telling them that there is new content,come and crawl it. So, Pinging makes it faster for SE's to index your site

When you update any informative content on your website, the next thing you need to do is go to a pinging website and enter your URL and a little bit of information. You can use various ping submission website for the same purpose.

Ping is used diagnostically to ensure that a host computer the user is trying to reach is actually operating. Ping works by sending an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request to a specified interface on the network and waiting for a reply. Ping can be used for troubleshooting to test connectivity and determine response time.

A Called ping device delivers an email to search sites from your site and informing them that there is new material,come and spider it. So, Pinging creates it quicker for SE's to catalog your site
