Directory Submission is good for getting backlinks but now a days there are lots of directories of low quality. Ans because of these before some days google ban some directories. you can check SEOMOZ link here.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/web-direc...mission-danger So please keep doing directory submission in only High quality sites (though it takes time for approval). Because its more beneficial than instant approval directories (or directories which approved your site in 1/2 days).
