A redirect is a way to send both users and search engines to a different URL from the one they originally requested. Below are descriptions of some of the commonly used types of redirects.

301 Moved Permanently

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website.

For SEO 301 redirect is normal .

There may be instances when a web site owner decides to rename his page, resulting in the change of the page url or address. The next time the search engine crawls your website, it will not find the original web page. You may have some links pointing to your old page. All the link juice that your page was enjoying will be lost. To avoid this, you can do a 301 redirect whereby your redirecting the search engines visiting the old URL to the new URL.

A 301 redirect is a method of telling web browsers and search engines that a web page or site has been permanently moved to a new location.

301 redirects are particularly useful in the following circumstances:

You've moved your site to a new domain, and you want to make the transition as seamless as possible.
People access your site through several different URLs (www and non www)
You're merging two websites and want to make sure that links to outdated URLs are redirected to the correct pages.
