Question Is it true about the Meta Description?

Recently I heard that Google is going to remove the meta description from our site. Really I'm in a great confusion. Just tell me is it true or its a rumor?

A meta description is an HTML element that provides a brief summary of a web page. A page's meta description tag is displayed as part of the search snippet in a search engine results page (SERP) and is meant to give the user an idea of the content that exists within the page and how it relates to their search query.

A meta description tag generally informs and interests users with a short, relevant summary of what a particular page is about. They are like a pitch that convince the user that the page is exactly what they're looking for.
