In HTML, meta tags are tags placed within the head section of your code that help define the contents of a web page.

BENEFITS OF META TAGS
There are two reasons to use meta tags:
1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
2. Browser Behavior
* Search Engine Optimization
The Meta tag is a very useful tag for webmaster who wants to customize their website listings on search engines. Meta tags can also help improve placement (or ranking) of your web pages in search engines like google. But not all search engines use meta tags, some very old search engines lack the technology or features to use meta tags, a good example is Lycos.
So if you want to improve your website ranking, using meta tags, can be very useful and advantageous. so take advantages of this HTML tag.
* Browser Behavior
Browser Meta Tags define particular things about a web page, for example, what character set to use when displaying the characters on the page, or what language the HTML document is written it, or how many long should wait before refreshing the page or redirecting to another web page.

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page's content; the meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code. We all know tags from blog culture, and meta tags are more or less the same thing, little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about.

Meta tags are areas in HTML code that contain information about a website. The information cannot be seen on the website itself. Search engines access certain meta tags so they can, for instance, display a page title and description in the search results.

Meta tags are a great way for Webmasters to provide search engines with information about their sites. They can be used to provide information to all sorts of clients, and each system processes only the meta tags they understand and ignores the rest.
