what to do when you are facing Path Tool problem

Sometimes I get a dialogue box error saying the file name is too long The file name that it's currently stalled on copying is not very long at all, however it is in a long path if you add together all the folder names.

I'm not sure if this is an issue that involves the QNAP NAS or if it's just a Windows-copying-to-a-network-drive problem.

My setup is
WIndows 7 x64 PC copying files over gigabit through a switch to QNAP TS-459

Anyone else run into this, or is there a finite limit to the total length of a file path?

Thanks!
