SMO is never done for keywords ranking, you have to do SEO for this. It will be good enough to contact an digital agency because its little difficult to do seo On page optimization and your seo starts with on page and if anything goes wrong then it will be difficult after wards.

SEO is the best way to get keywords ranking. But now a days its too difficult to achieve good keywords ranking because of Google's updates. If you will have achieve good ranking on your keywords then try to create natural backlinks for your website with unique & quality content. Also consider that website where are you going to create backlinks, that website must have at least 4 and more PR.

Both are very important methods to get good ranking position in SERP. I personally mixed both methods SMO and SEO because in this way we can get fast benefits.

(a) Make proper keywords research and analysis with Google Adword Tool andand http://serp-checker.ezmlm.org .
(b) Make quality backlinks with respect to these keywords.
(c) Add fresh and relevant content to website.
