Actually wordpress's backend is in PHP and MySQL, but the frontend (the theme) does usually (these days) contain (quite a lot of) javascript and specific libraries, HTML, CSS, etc.
But you aren't required to know it to run wordpress. There are themes which you just install and you're ready to set off. The sky's the limit .
