The poke is sort of outdated nowadays. It's still available, but I don't think anyone uses it anymore.

Poke is to get attention from someone and also telling someone that I am missing you also..If someone is block from sending friend request, he can also poke the one to get noticed. It is sometime a way to irritate someone.

If you get poked it means someone is trying to get your attention. Poking also means that you are annoying someone. The only thing that happens when you poke someone is that this person receives a poke alert on his or her home page. You cannot make an impact on their profile.

Haha it's a way of saying 'Hey I need your attention but I'm too lazy to write a message so please ask me what's up' I haven't found poke useful since I've been on facebook to be honest, and I don't like it when people poke me because I have to ask what is up and they could've just said it in the first place.
