XML is the part of on page seo and it is used to crawl your website all pages including latest updates on google. you can add your sitemap in google webmaster tools.

XML sitemap is useful only for search engine crawlers or spiders and doesn’t visible to users. It sits in the root of website.

XML sitemap is designed for search engine. once you have made some changes or add some new content, you can use XML sitemap to inform search engine.

Sitemap helps Search engines to provide daily content, site changes updates. It's also useful for users where they can find site links easily. You can install Google XML Sitemap and setup it on your Wordpress based site easily. After setting it up, it will look like VPS Sitemap.
